Sponsored event Relay for Life
Grays Harbor Fairgrounds, Elma, WA
|
Join the Mark Reed Hospital team October 2006 was my Mom's 9th anniversary of her passing away of Cancer. I saw Relay for Life information up in the Credit Union Bank and at The Select Market in McCleary. In January 2007 I decided to go to one of their Team Captain meetings. Pam Ator from Select Market called on me, gave me all the information on being a Team Captain and helped me through the process. On my team there 13 kids and 21 adults signed up. Throughout the year, between January and June we had: a garage sale in which everyone at the hospital participated in one way or another, a spaghetti feed at the Hospital, we invited all the doctors in the area to join us, we raffled several different items and joined in the silent auction at the Relay for Life walk. We had a lot of fun visiting around the campfire, had hamburgers and hot dogs. I especially loved seeing all the people who had Survived Cancer walk the first lap called the Survivor Lap. All who had fought Cancer got Survivor T-shirts that were purple and a medallion to where. It was fun and encouraging to talk with others who had Survived Cancer and were now Cancer Free. Walking around all the laps was a good time to get to know others who were walking for their loved ones. There was plenty of hugs to go around. We decorated our campsite in a cowboy theme. Our banner said "We are Roping in a Cure". We raised over $1,400. The East Grays Harbor all together raised over $92,000! Their goal this year is to raise $110,000.00. This year the Hospital Foundation gave our hospital team a wonderful gift of sponsoring us for a $1,000. A big Thank You to the Foundation. If anyone wants to join our team this year you can contact me at 495-3244 or by email here. You are in for a great experience. Our theme saying this year is "There's No Place Like Hope". Here are some photographs from the 2007 event.
Report on the 2008 event. Before the walk we raised $865.25 starting in Jan. During the walk with our raffle baskets, silent auction and the 4-H food booth we made $1,597.81. So our grand total was 2,463.06 which was great. My goal was to make $2000. I haven't gotten this into the Foundation web site yet but I will soon. East Grays Harbor made $98,658 and all of Grays Harbor made $490,504 which is wonderful for such a depressed area. We got an award for the "Best Campsite". |
