Mission Statement

We will provide quality healthcare services to our patients. We believe the patient is the reason we are here, and we are committed to maintaining high standards of care. We will provide services without discrimination. The District promotes continuity and coordination of care and works with other facilities to meet the healthcare needs of patients through referral, transfer and coordination of services.

Mark Reed Hospital is a Level V trauma center. This means our medical staff has the skills to evaluate, resuscitate, stabilize and initiate the transfer of trauma patients to a higher level of care if necessary.

A HISTORY

It was in 1948 that William R Reed donated $100,000 to start a hospital fund in memory of Mark E Reed, his father and previous president of Simpson Timber Company. Residents of the time raised additional funds adding to that first $100,000 donation and by 1950 the hospital building program began. On November 4, 1956 Mark E Reed Memorial Hospital was dedicated. It was not until 1982 that the voters formed the Mark Reed Hospital, Grays Harbor County Public Hospital District No. 1.  Three years later, in the spring of 1985, a new addition was completed resulting in the hospital you see today. This was the beginning of what is now, with community help and involvement, a valuable community hospital.

¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨

This is your hospital, in your community.  When emergencies arise you can be assured of consistent, caring, and expert healthcare – 24-Hours a day.

Since 1956 Mark Reed Hospital has proudly served the community of East Grays Harbor County.  Through efforts from the community and our dedicated staff, we are able to provide our patients with a comfortable, friendly and familiar environment.

THE FUTURE

For more than 50 years, the Mark Reed Health Care District has provided critically important health care services to East Grays Harbor County residents. Today the District’s future is uncertain and it faces some serious problems if it continues with business as usual.  For example, the District’s hospital and clinic facilities have not been significantly improved since they were built in 1956.  If changes are not made to bring the facilities into compliance with current standards, or a new facility is not built, the Mark Reed hospital and clinic will need to close their doors in the next 5-10 years. To help reach out to the community and develop recommendations for the District's Board of Commissioners on how best to address these serious problems, the District formed a Community Advisory Committee (CAC) in March, 2008.  A summary of the challenges the District is facing, a timeline for our planning work, and information on how you can learn more and get involved in shaping the District's future can be downloaded here.
